An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday accepted the bail plea of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Amir Khan who was on judicial remand in case pertaining the alleged harbouring of criminals.
The court granted bail to MQM Rabita Committee member Amir Khan against the surety bond of Rs 1 million and ordered him not to leave the country without permission.
Earlier on Friday ATC reserved its verdict on Khan’s bail plea which was filed on last Thursday through his counsel. In the last hearing Khan’s counsel argued that allegations against Khan were baseless and none of the evidence was found against him; therefore, he should be bailed out in the case. After hearing arguments from both sides ATC judge had reserved his verdict.
Khan has been charged with harbouring alleged terrorists, including death convict Faisal alias Mota wanted in Pakistani reporter Wali Khan Babar murder case, Ubaid K2 absconding in many murder cases, accused Nauman alias Nomi wanted in Naimat Dhandawa murder case and others suspects, who were arrested from the Nine-Zero, where Khan was in charge.
Earlier Khan was in Rangers’ detention from 13th March which handed over him to police on 4 June. Khan was arrested along with other suspects from his party’s headquarters, Nine-Zero on 11th March 2015.
The FIR was registered against Amir Khan under anti-terrorism act at Azizabad police station on the Rangers’ complaint.
