Incidents of dog-biting have been on rise in the Rawalpindi city as the Tehsil Municipal Administration ( TMA)  has failed to launch a drive against stray and rabid dogs since the last many months.

The TMA gets around Rs 0.4 million in budget allocations every year but the municipal administration fails to launch a drive to rid the city of stray and rabid dogs.

Last week, around 51 persons were bit by stray dogs in the Rawalpindi city and 11 dog-biting cases were reported when the World Rabies Day was being observed in the city. The victims were rushed to different hospitals for treatment but the local administration failed to take note of the issues which has become a bane for the residents.

A doctor at the Holy Family Hospital said that five to seven dog-biting cases were being reported at the hospital. He said that the hospital faces shortage of anti-rabies vaccines, putting the citizens lives at high risk.

A TMA official claimed that anti-stray dogs drives were carried out from time to time to kill the rabies and stray dogs. The official admitted that dog-biting incidents were a common place in the Rawalpindi city.
