The World Bank (WB) has agreed to provide funds for water supply schemes and cater to the needs of the twin cities.
Official sources said that WB authorities have told officials that the Economic Affairs Division refers the project to it before the funds are released. The source said that the project also includes water supply to the twin cities from the Indus River.
According to the source, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has been assigned the task to talk to the Sindh chief minister to persuade him on agreeing to allow water quota from the River Indus.
“If the projects were allowed to be initiated, the water issue of the twin cities will be resolved on a permanent basis,” said an official while requesting anonymity.
According to the officials, the Capital Development Authority will be entrusted to undertake work on the water projects if things go as planned. The sources said that federal and Punjab governments have also agreed to finance the water projects.
