The Punjab government on Saturday ordered that all eighth grade geography books containing incorrect maps of Pakistan should be removed from bookstores, a private news channel has reported.
According to the channel’s report, students have also been asked to return the books containing the incorrect maps. The channel claimed that officials of the Punjab Textbook Board (PTB) were aware of printing of the wrong maps but they had failed to take any action.
Of the 1.5 lakh eighth grade geography books printed by the PTB, 50,ooo of them contained incorrect maps of Punjab and Pakistan. The maps mentioned Hazara and Seraikistan as provinces and referred to Indian-held Kashmir as a disputed territory.
The Punjab government has also ordered an enquiry under PTB Chairman Nawazish Ali but, according to the channel’s report, the books were printed under his supervision in the first place.
