Crackdown against beggars, Police could arrest just 25

The police and city district administration conducted operation against the professional beggars in the provincial capital, during which just 25 beggars including women and children could be arrested.

On complaints of citizens and increase in number of beggars after beginning of Ramzan, the police and district administration launched a joint crackdown against professional beggars at the Mall Road, Anarkali, Ravi Road, Lorry Adda, Canal Road, Saddar, Gulberg, Bhaikowal, Muzang, Akbar Chowk, Kot Lakhpat, College Road and Ghazi Road localities of the city.

During operation, the police arrested 25 beggars including 13 women. The nabbed beggars were handed over to a public welfare organisation. However, a massive number of beggars are still roaming in the city including at traffic signals seeking charity from the motorists.

It is worth mentioning that the beggars disappear from the scene whenever an operation is launched against the menace. They shift to other places for some time and then return to their old stations of begging.
