A local court in Islamabad on Friday handed over five suspects including Shoaib Sheikh on seven-day physical remand to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the fake degree scandal.

Senior civil judge Abdul Gafoor Kakar was hearing the case on the plea of FIA regarding the attainment of Shoaib Sheikh’s physical remand.

Shaoib Sheikh, Waqas Sati, Zeeshan Anwar, Zeeshan Ahmed and Sabir were produced before the court.

FIA officials adopted the stance that Axact is involved in the business of fake degrees and are to be interrogated regarding money laundering therefore; maximum physical remand of the suspect should be granted.

Shoaib Sheikh’s lawyer argued that there is no concept of a chartered university in United States as a university can be opened there on the basis of mere a business license.

He said that Axact is serving as a facilitator and has the headquarter and entire bank accounts in Karachi where all the records has been seized and all allegations have also been investigated therefore; there is no need to initiate a new investigation in capital.

FIA just wants to prolong the case, he added.

The court after hearing arguments of both the parties remanded five suspects including Shoaib Sheikh in FIA custody for seven days.
