The Lahore High Court Thursday ordered the Punjab government to fill posts advertised for disabled persons within three months.

The court also ordered government to advertise other posts identified for the disabled in a month.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed these interim orders on a petition filed by Judicial Activism Panel, a public interest litigation firm, challenging non-implementation of employment quota for disabled persons and non-allocation of funds for them in the annual budget.

Earlier, Social Welfare Department officials told the court about agreement taken place between the government and visually impaired persons. They further said that after lifting a ban on disabled quota 1909 posts had been advertised by provincial departments whereas another 943 posts would be advertised soon.

They said 1,545 posts were advertised by 36 district governments whereas 1,754 posts would be advertised later by them. To a court query, the officials sought time to submit details about implementation on disable quota in private sector.

At this stage, a provincial law officer submitted a report about police torture on visually impaired persons.
