Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered an enquiry against officials concerned of the Punjab Textbook Board after it was reported that the board had ignored a map of the Punjab province in the Geography textbook for Class VIII which showed a new province, Seraikistan, carved out of Punjab.
Various political parties have demanded formation of new provinces or administrative units in Punjab, however, consecutive governments have so far avoided a debate on the matter.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the error in the textbook was due to negligence of some officials, who would be taken to task.
The book, according to the TV channel, also contains a map of the ‘new province’.
It may be pointed out that various parties want the establishment of a new province comprising Seraiki-speaking regions.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah told the channel that it was negligence of some official that the Seraiki province has been mentioned in the book. He said the government would look into the matter and take action against the responsible.
