Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reached Karachi from Dubai unannounced on Friday night amidst statements by several senior party leaders criticising the Zardari family’s sudden departure to Dubai in the prevailing circumstances.
Bilawal’s father and co-chairman of the party, Asif Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur are still in Dubai.
The PPP had to take a defensive stance after Asif Zardari’s aggressive speech a few days ago. His iftar dinner could also not achieve the intended goal of mustering political support. Meanwhile, the arrests of government officers and frontmen of politicians continue in Karachi whereas some politicians and bureaucrats have secured pre-arrest bails.
Speaking to a private news channel earlier on Friday, PPP Leader of Opposition in Senate Aitzaz Ahsan said that the Zardari family’s decision to leave the country under present circumstances was “improper”.
He said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had told him that he would spend Ramzan in Punjab. “I am not happy with the decision of the party’s leadership.” However, Bilawal’s return should now placate the jittery party workers and leaders.
Earlier, former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had also expressed surprise at Zaradri family’s decision to leave the country.
