Forty policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), were dismissed from service for negligence in duty, due to which over 200 inmates escaped from central jail after an attack from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to the District Police Officer (DPO) D I Khan, an ASI, head-constable and constables are among the terminated policemen. They all are local residents and deployed at the central prison, he added.
The dismissed policemen, however, have the right to file appeals in the department and the services tribunal. The local DPO was assigned as the head of an inquiry against the policemen.
The D I Khan Central Jail was attacked by a group of militants in the adjoining night of July 29 and 30 in 2013 and resulted in over 200 inmates, among them 15 hardened terrorists, getting free. The attackers had killed four prisoners and two policemen.
The banned TTP had claimed responsibility for the attack.
