SHC issues notice on Beena Khalid’s petition

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued a notice to the federal authorities to explain whether an alleged suspect behind the murder of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr. Imran Farooq will be transferred outside the country for interrogation.

A division bench headed by Justice Sadiq Hussain Bhatti directed the federal law officer to ensure filing of the comments by the authorities by July 2.

The bench was hearing a plea filed by Beena Khalid, the wife of the suspect who was missing since 2001, and recently the authorities announced his arrest from the Pakistan-Afghan border.

The petitioner submitted that her husband had gone missing from Karachi’s Malir locality on October 6, 2011. She said she had come to know that Khalid had been shown arrested from the Chaman border by the Frontier Constabulary officials and his custody has been handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency.

She apprehended that life of her husband is in danger, adding that he may also be shifted outside the country for interrogation about the murder of MQM’s Dr. Imran Farooq in London.

The applicant pleaded to the court to restrain the relevant authorities from shifting her husband outside the country.

After preliminary hearing, the bench issued notices to the authorities to file their replies on the matter by July 2.
