Almost all Ramzan Sastaa bazaars in Rawalpindi have been witnessing a severe sugar shortage since the last three days.

Though the district administration has allocated special stalls at the Sasta Bazaars for the provision of sugar, almost all stalls have sold their stock. There are a few stalls where the sugar is available, but people have to stand in long queues for hours in the scorching heat to purchase the commodity.

During a visit to Committee Chowk and Haideri Chowk sasta bazaars, it was witnessed that the product was almost non-existent, and the visitors said that the commodity is sold in the retail market through black marketing, depriving the citizens of a cheap service.

“If no relief could be provided to the citizens in Ramzan, what do they do with the statements of the Punjab government, which claims to have been spending billions of rupees as subsidy,” said Amjad, a resident of Committee Chowk, who was looking for the sugar at the Sasta Bazaar.

When contacted, an official at the District Coordination Office claimed that all was going well according to the plan. He said that the administration will look into the matter and take steps to overcome the issue.
