BANNU:
Two people were killed and 11 others injured during clashes between security forces and internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the Baka Khel camp in Bannu late on Sunday.
“Security officials fired and baton charged IDPs as they protested against the lack of facilities at the camp,” a resident said.
Claiming that the security forces appealed to the IDPs to stand in queues as they protested at the camp’s entrance, the resident added, “They [IDPs] turned violent and began throwing stones at the administration.”
“Two bodies and 11 injured were brought to the hospital,” a District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) official told The Express Tribune.
Another witness told RFE/RL’s Radio Mashaal that IDPs were enraged by reports that security guards had manhandled an IDP trying to enter the camp.
