Opp wants CCI meeting on outages, heatwave

Invoking the Council of Common Interests (CCI) to redress grievances, opposition members in the National Assembly on Monday highlighted the miseries people were facing due to heatwave and load shedding in the country, particularly in Sindh.

Voicing their concerns on points of order during the proceedings of the House, the parliamentarians said that a number of lives have been lost due to heatwave in Karachi. They said the government has increased the prices of electricity but there is no reduction in load-shedding duration.

Those who spoke on points of order include Shazia Marri, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Abdul Wasim, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Shaikh Rashid Ahmad, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour.

Addressing the House, they said it had been decided that K-Electric will upgrade the system but it failed to do so. As much as 20 hours load-shedding is being carried out in different parts of the country particularly in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and people are resorting to protests, they added.

The parliamentarians drew attention of the federal government to resolve the power crisis keeping in view the difficulties being faced by the people especially during Ramzan. They suggested that a committee should be formed to find an out of the box solution of the crisis. The opposition members also staged a walkout from the House over the issue.
