Met forecasts rain in most parts of country

The Met Office on Saturday forecasted widespread rain-thundershower with dust storms across the country, especially in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Islamabad and Kashmir.

Rain is expected at isolated places in Malakand, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Mardan, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Mirpurkhas divisions, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan during next 24 hours.

According to synoptic situation, seasonal low is lying over north Balochistan and its adjoining areas and light to moderate moist currents are reaching upper parts of the country.

Hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of Punjab including Islamabad while rain-thundershower with dust storm is expected at scattered places in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions while at isolated places of Sargodha division.

Similarly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), very hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the province. Rain-thundershower with dust storm is expected at scattered places in Hazara division while at isolated places in Malakand division.

Moreover, very hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the Sindh. However, rain-thundershower with dust-storm is expected at isolated places in Mirpurkhas division.

In Balochistan, very hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the province during next 24 hours.

Furthermore, in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, rain-thundershower with gusty winds is expected at scattered places and their adjoining areas.

The highest Temperature recorded is Sibbi 49C whereas other cities max temperatures are Sukkur 48C, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Lasbella 47C, RY Khan, Bahawalpur 46C, Islamabad 39C, Lahore 39C, Karachi 45C, Peshawar 40C, Quetta 39C, Gilgit 32C, Hunza 28C, Murree 27C, Skardu 30C, Muzaffarabad 36C, Faisalabad 41C, Multan 44C, Hyderabad 43C.

Moreover, chief amount of rainfall (mm) during last 24 hours has been recorded as: Cherat 08, Chhor 03, Dir, Dalbandin, Saidu Sharif 02 and Bannu 01.

KARACHI HOTTEST:

In the meanwhile, Karachi faced its hottest day in a decade on Saturday with the temperature touching a 10-year record of 45 degrees Celsius, the meteorological department said.

A spokesman for the meteorological department said that the heat-wave is likely to continue on Sunday (June 21), which will be the longest day of the year.

The city is expected to receive rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, said Ghulam Rasool, the director-general of the meteorological department.

The highest ever recorded temperature in Karachi was 47.8 degrees Celsius, recorded in May, 1938.
