Over 2,500 police personnel, police national volunteers, private security guards and women police are on security duty for 2,290 mosques, imambargahs and other important places in Rawalpindi district.
According to Rawalpindi Police spokesman, on the special directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, the police have made foolproof security arrangements for Ramazan and there are special security arrangements for all the main mosques, imambargahs, markets and other public places of the district.
Foolproof security arrangements were finalized for 2,195 mosques including 440 of Rawal Division, 738 of Potohar Division and 1,017 of Saddar Division to avert any untoward incidents during the holy month. Special security steps have also been taken to guard 95 imambargahs.
According to security plan, additional police officers have been deployed particularly to cover mosques and other religious congregations in the district while special check-posts have been established at entry and exit points of the city. Rapid response squads were also formed.
Tight security arrangements have been made by the police. The city’s main mosques are especially being guarded by armed police officers and only a single gate of the mosques has been opened for the faithful. Security personnel are also using metal detectors and no one is allowed to go inside the mosques without being searched.
Police personnel in regular attire have also been deployed in the markets with the consultation of traders.
There will be no permission to park vehicles, motorcycles, cycles and handcarts near mosques and imambargahs.
According to the police spokesman, considering the resources, the best possible security arrangements with available resources are being provided, and all out efforts are being made for the protection of the citizens. Police patrolling system has been strengthened in the district. Action in accordance with the law will be taken on the violation of the Loudspeakers Act.
Cops have also been deployed for security duty of 19 Ramazan Sasta Bazars of the district, he added.
