Lahore lawyer abuses judge, locks courtroom over petty issue: report

A lawyer in Lahore on Friday abused an additional district and sessions judge and locked up staff in the courtroom for quite some time for being asked about his identity, local media reported on Saturday.

According to the report, the lawyer had come to court without uniform and covered his head with a handkerchief, prompting the judge to ask about his identity.

It was the third incident of violence involving a lawyer in the last three days. On Thursday, a group of lawyers had beaten a sub-inspector for “daring to drink water in their glass without permission” outside the cafeteria of the Lahore High Court. A day earlier, some lawyers had thrashed a youngster outside Aiwan-i-Adl over petty issue on road.

A court staffer told the media outfit that a man in plainclothes approached the reader of AD&SJ Mazhar Saleem and started checking files. The apprehensive judge questioned his identity to which the man introduced himself as Advocate Maqsood Gujjar.

He said the presiding judge again questioned him why he was not wearing uniform which annoyed the lawyer, who started abusing the judge and moved away to complain to the district and sessions judge.

According to the report, the lawyer not only threatened reader Waseem when he tried to placate him but also slapped him and broke the glasses he was wearing. He said the lawyer also called his colleagues and locked up the officials in court for more than three hours.

  1. Isay kahtay hain parha likha jaahil! That's if his qualifications are genuine in the first place? Maybe another Xact degree holder!

  2. Such is the conduct of legal fraternity of Pakistan and when Army is included in the set up, Supreme Court cries like a baby. Revoke his license and make an example of him.
