Mama Qadeer’s name on ECL: SHC seeks reply

The Sindh High Court on Friday gave the federal authorities 10-days time to place on record the material on the basis of which the names of Baloch activists, Mama Abdul Qadeer and Farzana Majeed were placed on the Exit Control List.

A division bench headed Justice Sadiq Hussain Bhatti was hearing the petition filed by Baloch rights activists against restriction on their traveling abroad.

The petitioners’ counsel submitted that on March 5, Baloch rights activists Mama Qadeer Baloch, was stopped at the Karachi airport as he was traveling to New York to attend a weekend conference on alleged rights violations in Balochistan and Sindh provinces.

He said that both activists had been protesting against the enforced disappearance of Balochs at the Karachi Press Club. He told the judges that Mama Qadeer’s son, Jalil Reki, was detained by law enforcement personnel and later his body was found from Mand area in Balochistan. Farzana Majeed’s brother Zakir Majeed had also been missing for the past six to seven years. The counsel said that travel restriction was violation of articles 4, 14, 15 and 25 of the constitution as they were entitled to free movement. He pleaded with the court to direct the federal authorities to strike their names off the ECL. The hearing of the case was put off till July 08.
