Karachi Corps Commander Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar met Rangers Sindh Director General Major General Bilal Akbar on Thursday at Rangers Headquarters where he was briefed over the ongoing targeted operation against criminals and corrupt mafias in the city.
Sources said Lt Gen Mukhtar and Maj Gen Akbar expressed satisfaction over the crackdown and vowed to continue the action.
The visit comes a day after the Sindh chief minister wrote a letter to Rangers DG, expressing his concerns over raids on state-run institutions, especially the Karachi Building Control Authority.
In the letter, the CM said the paramilitary troops have “exceeded” their mandate. A copy of the letter has also been forwarded to the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
The meeting of the two high-ups also comes a day after Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari declared a war on the military following a salvo of allegations of corruption, land-grabbing, smuggling of Iranian oil and extortion on Sindh government.
“Stop victimising us or we will tear you down brick by brick. We do not want to undermine your establishment. You are already entangled in extremist terrorism, Balochistan insurgency, and Indian threats. So be advised, you have been warned,” Zardari had said.
