Nine sent to gallows, three got lucky

Nine prisoners were hanged in different jails across Punjab on Tuesday morning while three executions were postponed after the parties made a compromise and pardoned the accused in Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala jails, taking the executions toll to 163 since the APS massacre forced government to implement the death sentence.

Prisoner Mukhtar was executed in Kot Lakhpat Jail. Mukhtar had killed a man at Lyton Road in 2004 while execution of Khizar Hayat was postponed due to stay order of the court. Younus and Allah Ditta were executed in Faisalabad Central Jail. Younus was executed for killing three people in 2000 while death row convict Allah Ditta had killed a woman in 1999 while execution of Zulfiqar was postponed.

Muhammad Asghar and Ghulam Rasool were executed in Bahawalpur Central Jail who belonged to Bahawalnagar.  Rana Abdur Rauf was executed in Jhelum Central Jail.  Abdur Rauf had killed Muhammad Ilyas in 1996 over an old enmity.

Muhammad Basharat was sent to gallows in Sialkot District Jail while Ashraf was executed in Gujranwala jail. Ashraf was guilty of molesting a 12-year-old girl in 1999.

Asghar was executed in DG Khan jail for killing his nephew in 2000. Saeed’s execution was delayed after being pardoned by the victim’s family.
