Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq formally inaugurated China’s largest embassy’s compound here on Tuesday and said it reflected special and exclusive decades’ old Sino-Pak deep-rooted relationship.
Guests present at the ceremony included chief minster Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for State and Frontier Regions Lt. General® Abdul Qasir, Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, besides large number of diplomats and public figures.
The speaker said that the magnificent state-of-the-art compound of the Chinese embassy was testimony of ever-growing multifaceted relationship between the two countries.
He said the Chinese President Xi’s visit to Pakistan and the Sino-Pak joint economic corridor projects have deepened the friendship between the two countries.
In his opening address, Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong thanked the government of Pakistan for allocating a huge piece of land for establishing the new embassy’s compound. The embassy is a road named Zhouenlai Avenue.
The New Compound is now the largest by land area among all Chinese embassies in the world. The new compound is located in the backdrop of scenic Margalla hills in the north and faces Rawal Lake in the south. “The new Chinese Embassy Compound is the true reflection of the China-Pakistan friendship”, the ambassador remarked.
