All provincial and federal institutions should work with mutual coordination to prepare for monsoon rains and possible floods, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while addressing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat through video link on Monday.
The meeting reviewed in detail the arrangements regarding monsoon season and possible flood.
Shahbaz directed that all departments concerned should evolve an emergency plan while the members of the Cabinet Committee for Flood should visit the site to inspect repair work of embankments of the rivers. He said that the committee should visit sites of 10 important places and present its report and his helicopter is available for this purpose.
The chief minister said that he will personally monitor protective arrangements as well. He said that two warehouses have been set up in Lahore and Muzaffargarh for the stock of essential items.
“Abundance of food stock and other necessary items should be ensured in the two warehouses,” he said, adding that full benefit should be taken from the metrological systems of SUPARCO and PAF.
He directed that the training of operators of boats should be completed at the earliest. He said that foolproof mechanism should be evolved for the transportation of boats. He further directed that in case of emergency, the Health Department should have necessary medicines especially for the treatment of snake bites.
