National Accountability Bureau Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhary on Monday said that the Organization has recovered and deposited 262 billion rupees of looted money in the national exchequer since its inception in 2000.
Addressing a seminar on ‘Right to Information and Whistle Blower Protection’ organised by NAB in collaboration with Transparency International in Islamabad, chairman said that a provision of plea bargain has been introduced in the NAB laws. Referring to some important cases, he said NAB has recovered seven billion rupees in corruption cases relating to Rental Power Projects and out of over twelve cases, six references have been sent to courts.
He said that NAB has also recovered one billion rupees from the weapons scam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: he added that the IG involved in embezzlement is still in jail.
Qamar Zaman said one hundred and fifty-two references were filed in courts during the past year.
He informed the participants that a ten month timeline has been fixed from receiving the complaints till filing the case in the NAB courts. Thus, the authorities have put an end to the process which was previously open-ended.
He said it was decided that all the complaints received till 2013 will be disposed of till 30th of this month.
