LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) experienced a divide after the party’s election tribunal ordered to expel the senior leaders Jahangir Tareen and Nadir Leghari from the party.
Headed by Justice (r) Wajihud Din Ahmed, the tribunal formed to investigate discrepancies in the intra-party elections also forbade the party to accept the two leaders back in its echelons.
Minutes after the ruling, however, the party chairman Imran Khan overruled it saying, “PTI’s Election Tribunal headed by (retd) Justice Wajiuddin, was wound up after its verdict on reelection. Therefore, it has no authority to target and defame senior members of the Party.”
Declaring the ET as existing no more on the micro-blogging website, Khan tweeted making it clear that this was never the tribunal’s mandate and such subjective targeting of our senior leadership is simply unacceptable by a dissolved Tribunal.
