The National Assembly (NA) on Monday passed a resolution extending the Pakistan Army Act 2015 by another 120 days.

Parliamentarians from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) aggressively opposed the resolution in the assembly with MNA Iqbal Qadri demanding that the government provide reason for proposing an extension in the said act.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who presented the bill which was tabled in NA on Monday, responded to criticism by saying that those who were opposing the ordinance were “scared that their wrong doings would be exposed”.

Later on, commenting on the state of terrorism in the country, the defence minister said that Pakistan became part of a battle that was not its own and the mess created in the past is being cleared through Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
