Commissioner reviews traffic management plan for Ramazan

Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi has reviewed the traffic management and enforcement plan prepared specially for the month of Ramazan in a meeting held under his chairmanship at his office.

Additional Commissioner Jawed Sibghatullah Mehar, all deputy commissioners, all SSPs of traffic, senior officials of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, cantonment boards and representatives of Transport Ettehad were also present on the occasion.

It was decided in the meeting that all the deputy commissioners will supervise the traffic management and enforcement plan which would be implemented through coordinated efforts of traffic police and concerned departments of KMC and cantonment boards, traffic wardens would provide assistance to traffic police at intersections and other congested roads for controlling the traffic.

Representatives of the transporters assured the meeting that they would ensure that buses followed traffic rules to avoid obstacles and hurdles created by the buses to make the traffic flow smooth.

Deputy commissioners concerned will supervise the implementation of traffic plan and will play their role in their respective areas. They were asked to specially depute the assistant commissioners in their jurisdiction to monitor the efforts for the implementation of traffic management and enforcement plan for better traffic flow during the holy month of Ramazan.

Javed Sibghatullah was asked to coordinate with the concerned departments in connection with the effective implementation traffic plan. The commissioner said the objective of the traffic plan was to ensure smooth flow of traffic, especially before Iftar timing so as to facilitate the fasting people.

The meeting decided that the special arrangements will be made after 2pm by traffic police to control traffic on all busy roads, intersections/roundabouts.

It was also decided in the meeting that patharas, stalls, pushcarts and cabins that would obstruct the traffic will be removed to provide clear passage to the vehicular traffic.

The entry of heavy traffic on the busy streets will also be banned from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with the consultation of owners of heavy transports, the meeting decided.

It was also decided that if required section 144 would be imposed in this regard.
