SHC seeks comments in various detention cases

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought comments from the Rangers director general, IG, Karachi police chief and other police officials on a number of petitions filed against detention of citizens by the law enforcement agencies.

A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh was hearing the petitions seeking recovery and whereabouts of detainees. Petitioner, Farah Abdul Jabbar, wife of a detainee, submitted that her spouse was picked up by personnel of Rangers on June 08 from Malir and there was no clue to his whereabouts as yet.

She stated that her relatives had approached the Rangers officers to seek information about whereabouts of her husband, but they turned down their plea. She said similar request was made to the head of police station concerned but to no avail. Arguing that her spouse was kept in illegal detention by the law enforcers, the petitioner pleaded with the court to order law enforcers to produce him in the court. Petitioner Riazul Haq said that Rangers picked up Adnan from NativeJettyBridge on May 19 but neither they disclosed his whereabouts nor produced him in any court of law. Petitioner, relative of the detainee, submitted that Muhammad Rizwan was whisked away by Rangers personnel on May 17 from Behar Colony and he was missing since then.
