SHC restrains NAB from coercive action against Pir Mazhar

The Sindh High Court on Thursday restrained the National Accountability Bureau from taking any coercive action against Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, former Sindh education minister, in pursuance of an inquiry against him for allegedly making illegal appointments and getting kickbacks.

A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh gave this restraining order while hearing a petition filed by former education minister who approached the court pleading with it to restrain the NAB officials from causing harassment.

The bench issued notice to the federal authorities, NAB chairman and other respondents to submit their respective replies to the petition till June 22. The counsel for the petitioner submitted that the NAB had initiated an inquiry against Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq for allegedly making illegal appointments of teachers and receiving bribes. He alleged the inquiry was initiated to victimise his client because of his political affiliation.

Refuting the allegations, the counsel said, these allegations were unfounded as the former minister made all appointments during his tenure on merit. He told the judges that the NAB intended to harass and victimise his client on the basis of this inquiry and requested them to restrain them from harassing him.
