NAB committed to eradicating corruption from country, says chief

Chairman National Accountability Bureau Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has said that NAB is committed to eradicating corruption under its Zero Tolerance Policy across the country.

A press statement issued on Friday said that recent reports from Independent Watch Dogs like Transparency International rated Pakistan in Corruption Perception Index (CPI) from 175 to 126. The PILDAT in its recent report also supports the position stated above as 42 per cent people trusted NAB against 30 per cent for police and 29 per cent for government officials which is a great achievement for Pakistan due to NAB’s efforts. He said this while addressing Officers/Officials of NAB during his visit to NAB Balochistan.

He said the menace of corruption has links to a multitude of vices. It creates a sense of insecurity, hopelessness and despondency. In our own peculiar case the twin menace of corruption and poverty are closely interlinked. A surge in one has a direct bearing on the other.

The NAB chairman said that good governance means authorities becoming responsive and utilise public funds prudently to ensure optimum returns for every Rupee spent from the national exchequer. We have to redouble our efforts to come up to the expectations associated with NAB. He reiterated that NAB is embarked on the course to eradicate the scourge of corruption. But I must admit that NAB alone cannot fight the war against corruption. It is a collective social responsibility. The intelligentsia and media have to play an important role. On the part of NAB, we are determined to perform our duties with absolute professionalism.
