Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Friday said that an effective traffic plan had been devised for Ramazan-ul-Mubarak in the city. Traffic police, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and transporters would collectively implement the plan for an easy flow of traffic during the holy month.
“All the deputy commissioners should supervise the implementation of the traffic plan in their respective areas and would play their role in removing hurdles in traffic,” he said this while addressing a meeting at his office to review vehicular traffic measures for implementation during Ramzan.
Additional Commissioner Karachi I Javed Sibghatullah Mehr has been appointed the coordinator for mutual coordination and cooperation for the implementation of the traffic plan.
Deputy commissioners of all the districts, officers of traffic police, motorway police, KMC, cantonment boards, Karachi Transport Ittehad and other relevant organisations were also present on the occasion.
Commissioner Karachi said the goal behind implementation of traffic plan was to finish mismanagement of traffic before Iftar. It would help save fasting people from the trouble of traffic pressure and they would be able to reach their homes on time rather than breaking fast on roads.
The meeting decided that traffic police would make special arrangements for traffic control on all busy roads and roundabouts after 2:00pm with the help of traffic wardens. Assistant commissioners would be posted for monitoring.
“All the encroachments becoming hurdle in traffic flow would be removed through joint operation of anti-encroachments staff and traffic police. Heavy traffic will be restricted on busy roads after 2:00pm till Iftar,” the meeting decided, representatives of Karachi Transport Ittehad assured their full cooperation during the meeting.
The meeting decided that intercity bus owners would play their role in minimising traffic pressure at Cantt and other busy arteries. Transportation of chemical, diesel and oil would not be allowed through intercity buses. Bus owners would act upon the decision according to the safety rules. Secretary regional transport authority would take action against the person found to be violating the rules.
It was also decided in the meeting that during peak hours one-way road on Lyari Expressway from Sohrab Goth to Maurripur would be opened for traffic flow.
Good decision, the lyari expressway should be utilized for both ways of traffic by introducing timing fro 6am to 3pm from sohrab goth to mauripur & from 3pm till midnight for mauripur to sohrab goth, this will ease congestion on major roads and will also be a source of double revenue for it, this should be made permanent till such time the other track is completed. Also the encroachments should be removed immediately before ramzan from main roads as they are the main hurdles in flow of smooth traffic.
