Issuing a warning to India, former Pakistan president General (r) Pervez Musharraf has said that Pakistan has developed nuclear weapons for defence and deterrence.

Speaking during a TV interview, Musharraf said: “If I say in Chaudhry Shujaat’s style, do we have nukes saved to be used on Shab-e-Baraat?”

“We do not want to use nuclear capability but if our existence comes under threat, who do we have these nuclear weapons for?” he said.

The former military chief accused India of working on an agenda to suppress and destabilise Pakistan. “Deal with them with sovereign equality, my experience is they will further suppress if we back off. Their stance is offensive one,” Musharraf added.

Earlier, Indian Defence Minister Minister Manohar Parrikar took a dig at Pakistan, saying those who “fear India’s new posture” have already started reacting after the Indian Army’s cross-border pursuit of militants in Myanmar.

Rathore had lauded the Indian Army operation in Myanmar, calling the surgical strike an “unprecedented and extremely bold step” by the government.
