Sindh bigwigs run terror show in Karachi: Rangers DG

Briefing the Sindh Apex Committee meeting held a day earlier on the law and order situation in Karachi, Rangers Director General (DG) Major General Bilal Akbar revealed the involvement of political parties, district administration and the police in criminal activities in the city.

According to a press release, the Rangers DG said that Rs 230 billion were illegally collected in Karachi annually and distributed amongst gang-war factions in the metropolis, especially Lyari, and amongst some important dignitaries in Sindh. The money, also collected as alms, was used for the purchase of arms and ammunition and most crime was committed by a large party in Karachi, he said.

Maj Gen Akbar said that there were three types of land-grabbing being carried out in the metropolis, involving government and private land and property. He said that political parties, the city government, district administration and police personnel were all involved in land grabbing cases in Karachi. He added that the amount made from land-grabbing was used by political and religious parties to operate their armed wings.

The briefing also noted that the money made from sale of sacrificial animal hides was used for funding terrorist activities.

The Rangers DG went on to say that a large part of illegal businesses in the city was the distribution system of water, which involved illegal means of making millions of rupees.
