Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Tajik President Imam Ali Romanov in Dushanbe on Tuesday and discussed matters of bilateral interest and ways to expand cooperation between the two countries.
Talking to the Tajik president, PM Sharif said collective efforts were needed to increase bilateral trade. He said the main thrust of Pakistan’s engagement with Tajikistan was on trade, investment, energy, connectivity, people-to-people contacts, tourism and culture. He also stressed regular exchanges of parliamentary friendship groups between the countries to take the friendship to grassroots.
The prime minister thanked Tajikistan for inviting 20 children and five faculty members of Army Public School, Peshawar.
Welcoming PM Sharif, the Tajik president said relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan have a long history based on shared culture and a common religion. He said maintaining relations with Pakistan was one of the priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.
“More than 40 bilateral agreements have been signed between the two countries since early 1990s. Last year’s official visit of Prime Minister Sharif had opened a new page in our bilateral cooperation,” President Romanov said, thanking Pakistan for supporting CASA 1000 project. He also welcomed Pakistan’s industrialists and agriculturists to hold exhibitions in Tajikistan.
Tajikistan president also accepted prime minister’s invitation to Pakistan.
