ATC confirms Mirza’s bail, shows no objection over his going abroad

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday confirmed the pre-arrest bail of former home minister Sindh Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and his associates in a case pertaining to attack at Darakhshan police station and observed that it has no objection if Mirza wants to go abroad.

Dr Mirza and his associates were charged with attacking Darakhshan police station during his visit for recording statements in the cases registered against him in district Badin. Mirza was booked in this case for allegedly besieging and vandalising the police station during his appearance for recording his statement.

Disowned leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Dr Mirza was on interim bail in the case who sought permission from the ATC to travel abroad for the medical treatment of his wife, Dr Fehmida Mirza.

The Mirza’s counsel requested the court to grant him permission to travel with his wife as all courts had allowed him to do so. On the other hand, the state’s lawyer Muhammad Khan Buriro, a special public prosecutor, opposed the permission and contended that Mirza has been charged with serious charges including of terrorism; therefore, he should not be allowed to go outside the country.

After hearing the arguments of both sides, the ATC-III judge observed that the court had no objection if Zulfiqar Mirza wanted to go abroad with his wife.
