Rains expected in city during next few days

The tropical cyclone “Ashobhaa” is likely to intensify further while moving north westward in next 24 hours with heavy rains expected in the provincial metropolis as well as in other coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

The Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre, Pakistan Meteorological Department Karachi, in its latest warning Tuesday said that Ashobhaa had moved further north-west, during past 12 hours, at a speed of 18 km per hour, and was about 550 kms away from south-southwest Karachi.

The sea conditions along Sindh-Makran coast are likely to remain rough to very rough occasionally while maximum tide height ranging between 4.5 metres to 5.5 metres, it added.

Stormy winds are also expected to blow till Friday evening, said the met department officials mentioning that winds with a velocity of 30 km per hour to 40 km per hour are expected to blow in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Thatta, Badin and Sujawal districts of the province during next 12 hours to 36 hours.

Chances also exist of isolated heavy falls and flash floods in southwest Balochistan, they said.
