CJP administers oath to Auditor-General of Pakistan Rana Asad

 ISLAMABAD:

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk administered oath of office to Rana Asad Ameen as Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) in a simple but dignified ceremony.

Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Attorney General of Pakistan, Secretary Ministry of Finance, Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officers of AGP attended the ceremony. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court were also present on the occasion.

Tahir Shahbaz, Registrar Supreme Court conducted the proceedings of oath-taking ceremony, said a press release.

It should be mentioned that Rana Asad was offering services at finance ministry.

Rana Asad Ameen as AGP replaced Mohammad Akhtar Buland Rana who was removed from the office on May 23.

Talking to media following oath-taking ceremony, he said Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is highly vital, adding, “If we perform our duties sincerely and honestly, the workload of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will definitely be curtailed.”

The new AGP vowed to vet all new new and old audits, adding the audit gap is whittled down to one year.

AGP Rana said efficient and honest officers will be promoted by introducing transparency and reforms into the department, adding however, it will be denied to the officers who seek promotion by using references and recommendations.

The Finance Division earlier notified removal of Mohammad Akhtar Buland Rana from his office. The notification issued by the Finance Division said the Supreme Judicial Council’s report opines that Muhammad Akhtar Buland Rana has committed misconduct on numerous occasions, making him liable to be removed from his office.

“The President in pursuance of Article 168(5) read with Article 209(6) of the Constitution removed Muhammad Akhtar Buland Rana from the office of the Auditor General of Pakistan with immediate effect,” the notification said.
