Police on late Saturday night killed two youngsters, from the Dhoke Ali Akbar locality, for not stopping at a police check point at College Road in Satellite Town area of Rawalpindi.
According to details, the two brothers, identified as Zeshan and Shakeel, aged between 22 and 24 years, were on their way when policemen from the Muhafiz force signalled at them to stop at a checkpoint. When the two defied the order to stop and continued to move, the police opened fire on them, as a result of which one of them died on the spot while the other brother succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
According to the details, the bodies have been handed over to the bereaved families after the post mortem was completed on Sunday.
According to autopsy report, both the young boys received a bullet in their abdomen. The bullet passed through the body of one brother, while a bullet was still found in the abdomen of the other brother.
Sources from the brother’s family said that they were returning home from their shop when the incident happened.
The police present at the hospital tried to give impression that the killings were a result of a police encounter.
The family staged a protest demonstration outside the Holy Family hospital and demanded justice. They also raised slogans against the police.
POLICE OFFICERS HELD
Security agencies have apprehended as many as two police personnel, while raids are being conducted to arrest the other two.
The killing of the two innocent brothers in Rawalpindi is a highly deplorable act, and a murder case will be lodged against the police personnel involved in the shooting incident, said a high police official in the wee hours of Sunday.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi minced no words over the unwarranted firing incident by police that claimed lives of two innocent youths. “Police have no right to open fire without an accompanying valid reason,” he said.
Expressing grief and regret over the police wrongdoing, the police officer termed the incident as gross injustice by the personnel.
Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif took immediate notice of the tragedy and asked the CCPO to submit a report.
Once signaled to stop, it is mandatory to stop. The fault lies with the drivers who took the signal as 'fun'
