GILGIT:
Gilgit-Baltistan polling is in progress, for the election of new representatives of the region’s Legislative Assembly, reported local mediums.
The GB government has declared public holidays for today and tomorrow on the occasion of the polls.
The polling in all seven districts began at 8am and will continue till 5pm.
With 268 contestants in the fray for 24 Legislative Assembly seats, tough competition is expected between candidates of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set up over 1100 polling stations – 282 of them declared ‘very sensitive’ – where more than 615,000 registered voters will cast their votes.
