Govt trying to introduce mango varieties in int’l markets: CM

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the provincial government is trying to introduce different varieties of locally produced mango in international market for enhancing export of the horticultural produce of the country.

Addressing the prize-distribution ceremony held here in connection with three-day golden jubilee mango festival, the Sindh CM said mangoes of Mirpurkhas due to their appetising aroma and lavish taste hold a unique status not only within Pakistan but in different countries of the world including European and the American continents. Mirpurkhas produces new varieties of the sweet and sour fruit, known as the king of fruits, every year.

The federal government was also requested for measures to increase the export of Pakistani mangoes with the help of foreign embassies and missions, he added.

The CM said that the Pakistan People’s Party always places top priority to generation of employment opportunities for the youth on merit and in previous regime of the PPP two hundred thousand youth were given employment in government sector while in present tenure of the party some 15 thousand youth were employed in police department and further vacancies were being created to facilitate more educated and capable youth of the province.

Mango Festival Management Committee Chairman Umar Bughio highlighted the problems and requirements of mango growers and called upon the government to provide subsidy to growers on purchase and installation of solar powered tube-wells to deal with the issue of water logging.

The CM distributed shields and cash prize among growers.

In category-A Nawazabad Farm, Saith Ajay Kumar and Sajid Sons got first, second and third positions respectively. In Category-B Allah Bachayo Rajar, Aarif Bhurgri and Muhammad Ali Arain and in category-C Raees Illahi Bux Lashari, Sobdar Lashari and Wali Muhammad Deshak got first, second and third positions respectively.

Earlier, the CM visited different stalls set up at the exhibition and expressed happiness on enormous varieties show-cased there.

Senator Hari Ram Kishori Lal, MNA Mir Munawar Talpur, Provincial Minister Ali Mardan Shah, MPAs Mahesh Malani, Ms Khairun Nisa Mughal, Nusrat Sultan Khwaja, Adviser to CM Abu Bhai, Shamim Ara Panhwar, Secretary Agriculture, Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Mirpurkhas and other officials were also present on the occasion.
