Khan offers critics LB re-elections

Addressing a public meeting in Hunza on Thursday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan offered disgruntled parties holding re-election for local bodies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

“The KP government is not involved in rigging hence it won’t hesitate from holding re-election provided all the political parties agree over it,” Khan said.

The PTI chief wowed to grant more regional autonomy to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), which he said was neglected by the government. “The development work that should have been done by the government was materialised by Agha Khan instead,” he said, pledging that he would make the region more independent.

“Time will come when people will long for getting employment opportunities in Hunza,” Khan said, adding that it was obligatory for the federal government to help people affected by Attabad Lake.

Criticising his political opponents, Khan said that PTI would put an end to partnership of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari, which he claimed was only meant to take turns in the government.

Moreover, he said that though decision on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project had been taken, the economic zone was yet to be built. He also promised to give GB its share of the CPEC project.

In an earlier address at Nagar, Khan asked the crowd that they should only vote for PTI in the coming local body elections. The populace should take funds from PML-N workers but should proceed to vote for PTI, he jested.

“Imran Khan cannot help you, but you have to help yourself. This will happen if you make sure power is devolved. These people will never really empower you. We want to change the system such as we have done in KP where we have brought the power down to the village level,” Khan said.
