Legendary batsman Javed Miandad while backing the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to nominate Zaheer Abbas for the International Cricket Council (ICC) presidency said the Asian Bradman can play his executive part in convincing the Council and international teams to tour here.

Zaheer has been nominated by the PCB for the ICC presidency a day after Najam Sethi pulled out from the race for the position. An announcement regarding this is expected in the next 10 days. PCB feels that Zaheer’s non-controversial personality makes him a good choice for the job.

Miandad said the ICC took a good decision at its board meeting that the Presidency would be given to a former test cricketer. “Zaheer definitely deserves to be the ICC president for what he has done for Pakistan cricket over the years,” he said adding the best way a cricketer can run the cricket affairs no one else can.

Miandad said if Zaheer gets appointed as the ICC president he can convince the ICC and other international teams to tour Pakistan. “The Zimbabwe team just visited here and they took a positive message from here that Pakistan is a safe and sport loving country,” he said adding now many teams would be interested to tour here but it’s just a matter of convincing them and a persona like Zaheer can definitely do this.

Speaking about the Pakistan-Sri Lanka series, Miandad said he cannot understand why the selectors are not giving a chance to Ace bowler Saeed Ajmal. “He has been the number one bowler in the rankings but still isn’t included in the squad,” he said adding this way PCB is shattering the off-spinner’s confidence.

Miandad said Ajmal has been the flag-bearer of the Pakistani bowling attack in the last couple of years and had guided them to many victories.

However Miandad said Sri Lanka is a very good side and Pakistan should focus on to win this series.
