The provincial health department’s six-member committee collected 214 water samples across the city to check chlorine levels, and out of them 113 samples had zero per cent chlorine, it was learned on Tuesday.
The committee is formed to collect water samples from different areas to check chlorine levels in the water being supplied to the city.

The residents of Orangi Town, SITE and Malir towns are at more risk of naglaria fowleri due to poor chlorine levels in the water supplied to these areas.
Central leader of Pakistan Medical Association (Centre) Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad has said that the deaths of eight people from brain-eating amoeba naegleria fowleri within one and half month in Karachi is alarming and authorities concerned should ensure hundred per cent chlorination of water.
He explained that chlorination of water is considered to be the only cure against the spread of the deadly naegleria fowleri. He said naegleria fowleri entersd human body through nose and damage the brain system. He said in 99.99 per cent cases naegleria fowleri patients die and there is little chance of survival from this disease.
He said approximately three million people in Pakistan contract water-borne diseases like typhoid, hepatitis A & E, gastroenteritis, cholera and others, every year.
He said as there is no cure of naegleria fowleri and citizens must adopt preventive measures to protect themselves from the disease. He said over-head water tanks, underground water tanks, ponds, swimming pools and all other water reservoirs should be chlorinated in the summer season to avoid this disease.
He said the government and Karachi water and sewerage board authorities must play their due role and properly chlorinated water must be supplied to the city to prevent people from naegleria fowleri.
