Stop the crocodile tears, resolve the water crisis: JUI tells govt

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) held a protest demo against persisting acute water shortage in the city at Sohrab Goth, Superhighway.

Protestors carrying placards and banners chanted slogans against the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and local government department Sindh, demanding emergency steps to resolve the water shortage issue.

JI District East chapter amir ex-MPA Muhammad Yunus Barai, while addressing the demo, said that the ongoing water crisis in the city was artificial and the ruling Pakistan People’s Party and its ex-partner Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) were responsible for the water crisis. He said that the ultimate beneficiary of the ongoing water crisis is the water tanker mafia and it is an open secret which ruling parties patronises this mafia. He said the government is not serious about resolving the water issue. Had it really been serious it would have implemented the K-4 project, a brainchild of former Karachi mayor Niamatullah Khan Advocate, many years ago.

He said that both PPP and MQM were responsible for the water shortage and they are shedding crocodile tears on the issue. He asked them to stop politiciSing the water issue and tender an apology to the Karachiites for their failure to start the K-4 project during their long tenures in the provincial government. He asked to annul 10,000 fake recruitments in the KWSB and fill these posts through Sindh Public Service Commission on merit basis. Furthermore, he pointed out the need to get the leaking water lines repaired and improve failed sewerage system in the city which is spreading diseases.

He demanded that action be taken against corrupt officials in local government departments, as well as KWSB, KMC and other civic agencies. He asked to rein in the KE which is ruining the economy of Karachi with its unbridled load shedding, especially in the slum areas of the city.
