Daska killings aftermath: Officials find no place to sit, restart working

Despite passing of a week, the government has not been able to restore the working environment in Daska city after Daska Bar Association (DBA) President Rana Khalid Abbas and Muhammad Irfan Chohan were allegedly gunned down by Station House Officer (SHO) Shehzad Warraich during a clash in front of the main gate of the Daska city Police Station on May 25.

The tragedy had triggered violence in the city and the protesting mob comprising general public and lawyers set ablaze the offices of the city’s deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) besides burning complete official records there.

POLICE KEEPS ‘CHILLING’:

In order to defuse the situation, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Sukhera had appointed Qayyum Gondal as DSP Daska few days ago who is yet to assume the charge. Meanwhile, the Daska Police is operating without a DSP.

The junior staff has established a temporary office of the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in judicial lock up (Bakhashi Khana) adjacent to Daska City Police Station while all the officials concerned have been absent from their duties after the incident.

LAWYERS CONTINUE BOYCOTT:

The lawyers boycott of lower courts completed a week on Monday due to which the thousands of the cases are lying pending in the Daska courts. The people are suffering a great ordeal due to inordinate delay in the hearing of their cases in the local courts.

The DBA has asked the lawyers to boycott the lower courts till the submission of the challan of Daska lawyers’ murder case before the anti-terrorism court (ATC). The courts wore a deserted look due to the boycott.

TMA’S WORK SUSPENDED:

Meanwhile, all projects of the TMA have been suspended as the record burnt to ashes by the protesting mobs.

The TMA officials have not been able to restart their work to facilitate people as they don’t have an office to sit and work.

Few TMA officials said that all the official record of all the development schemes was burnt due to which the payments of the contractors, who had completed their development works, are not being cleared as they have to reproduce the record of their bills.

All the development projects of the city and its surroundings have been halted due to loss of record.
