CDA using bleach not chlorine for water purification

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been using bleaching powder instead of chlorine and sodium dichloride to clean the water, putting the life of citizens at risk.

According to sources, the CDA officials are unaware that chlorine cylinders stock has depleted.

Millions of rupees were spent to install chlorine cylinder at the tube wells. Some of the chlorine cylinders are non-operational, whereas others have been removed and sold with the “understanding” of supervisors and tube-operators.

Huge funds are withdrawn from the national exchequer to purchase and repair chlorine cylinder which are removed from the site.

Water Management Director Jabar khan said that water in Islamabad was “cleaned naturally” and did not require further cleaning.

CDA Health Director Dr Hassan Arooj said that chlorine cylinders attached with tube wells are safe and had good affect on the health. The bleaching powder is dangerous for the health of public, as spots could be created on the body due to its reaction.
