The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday summoned top officials of the City District Administration, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the police in a petition against the forced removal of slums in capital city.

The single-member bench comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Saddiqui resumed hearing of the case filed by a resident of sector I-10, Aziz ur Rehman.

The court directed secretary Ministry of Interior, CDA chairman, Inspector General Islamabad Police and Chief Commissioner to appear in person before court on June 4, 2015.

During the course of proceeding, Justice Shaukat Aziz Saddiqui remarked that no slums in the capital city could be legalised according to the law.

He said that officials from concerned departments are involved in the increase of slums (kachi Abadi) as they provide facilities of electricity and gas to these illegal structures.

However, the counsel for the petitioner Advocate Farrukh argued that Kachi Abadi should be legalised as it was the responsibility of the government to provide homes to the people.

This is to mention here that on the directives of IHC, the CDA had planned to launch an operation against slums in Islamabad.
