While speaking during a debate on Protection of Journalists in Conflict Situations at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Pakistan’s ambassador to UN Maleeha Lodhi said Thursday called for stepped up efforts to ensure safety and security of media professionals, especially in the situations of armed conflict.
Lodhi said threats to the journalists had become more complex as some regions of the world descend into chaos. She said several new trends were now in evidence that pose challenges especially to female and freelance media workers. She stressed the need to strengthen the means to assure the safety of journalists.
