Prominent ghazal singer, and recipients of the Pride of Performance Award, Munni Begum graced Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) for a sham-e-ghazal.
She was invited for a solo evening by the Council. The event was attended by a huge gathering, which included Senator Najma Hameed, MNA, Tahira Aurangzeb, MPA Tahseen Fawad, Executive, Punjab Council of the Arts, Ch Asif Pervaiz, former RAC Director, Naheed Manzoor and Resident Director RAC Waqar Ahmed.
Munni Begum started with “Awargi Me Had Se Guzar Jana Chahye” in her soulful voice to take back the audience into the glorious past of Pakistani music. No one could forget the echo of some of the ghazals by Munni Begum such as “Tumhare Shehr Ka Mausam Bada Suhana Lage”, “Ek Bar Muskura Do and Bhoolne Wale Se Koi Kehde”, “Ae Mere Humnasheen Chal Kahin Aur Chal” and so on.
The crowed was absorbed in her ghazals and didn’t notice that she she sang live for more than two hours. The sham-e-ghazal was arranged by RAC in connection with Rawal Sports and Cultural Festival 2015.
It was in the 70s when Munni Begum started her career and released her first album. In 2008, the legendary singer was awarded with Pride of Performance by the government.
At the end of sham-e-ghazal, Resident Director RAC Waqar Ahmed terming the evening a great and memorable occasion thanked all the distinguished guests.
