SHC issues written order in Sindh police contempt case

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday has issued a formal order in the contempt of court case against the police stating that the Sindh inspector general (IG) did not speak the truth.

According to the order, the IG kept names of police officers from the court. He did not reveal the identities of all the officials who were present on the attack site. The SHC had stated that the IG could not be forgiven until he speaks the truth and accepts the supremacy of the law. The IG surrendered after he was questioned about his wrong statement, the order states.

Several officials were transferred and on May 19 but the IG kept this from the court. Chaudhry Asad was appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tariq Dharejo’s post. Zeeshan Butt replaced SSP Raees, the order states. Additional Inspector General (AIG) Special Branch Bashir Memon was also present at the site. He kept on informing the IG about the situation.

The court has ordered Memon, Superintendent of Police (SP) Liaquatabad Tahir Noorani, SP City Fida and SP Sadar Zeeshan Butt to file their affidavits. The order states that Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Dr Jameel said that he was on leave the day the incident happened whereas DIG West Feroz Shah confessed that he was present on the site.
