Rajwana advises police to ‘improve image’

Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana advised police to improve its image in the public by extending justice to aggrieved persons while resisting pressure from influentials.

Governor said this while chairing a meeting at local circuit house to review law and order situation on Wednesday. Good policing can ensure best governance, Rajwana said and advised police officials not to fall victim to pressures that are meant to direct their authority to create troubles for innocent people.

Governor said that he would apprise the chief minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif of problems being faced by police including shortage of staff, vehicles, allied facilities, and police stations operating in rented or borrowed buildings.

Rajwana asked police to take strict action against land grabbers, drug traffickers, transformers and water thieves. He also advised zero tolerance policy against police officials who try to protect criminal elements.

Acting CPO Muhammad Saleem, while giving briefing to Governor, said that Multan was surviving on 10 year old sanctioned strength of 5300 policemen and constable to population ratio in Multan was 1-833. This ratio was 1-370 in Lahore and 1-450 in Faisalabad.

RPO Amjad Javed Salimee said there were 453 vehicles in Multan region and 200 of them were over 10 years old. He said that out of 79 police stations in Multan region, fourteen were operating in borrowed building and ten others in rented premises.

Punjab Governor said that Army and police were actively engaged in operation against terrorists and deserve commendation from the whole nation.
